About

Thijs Jansen

Thijs Jansen (2004, Groningen) is a contemporary jazz guitarist and composer, living and working in The Netherlands.

Jansen is currently commencing studies at the ArtEZ conservatory in Zwolle as a fourth year student. During his time at the conservatory, he has conceived the formation of his Thijs Jansen trio, which made their international debut in 2024 as part of two consecutive tours across Europe, following the release of two singles from their upcoming album “Montane”, comprising entirely of original compositions and featuring Dion Hoorn and Art Baden.

As a composer, he revolves his work around his fascination with nature, as can be observed in the two album singles titled Montane and Current, two compositions in which he explores his experiences with the powerful and mysterious resonance of mountains and water respectively.

His musical influences range from contemporaries among which Aaron Parks and Jacob Collier, to classical composers such as Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy, with a particular affinity for the Pat Metheny Group between those.

In addition to his trio work, Jansen has performed in a variety of musical contexts alongside notable musicians, including Joris Teepe, Peter Beets, Lilian Vieira, and Art Baden.”
